SENIOR MECHANICAL/PIPING DESIGNER

Overview

Education: High School Diploma or GED. Higher level education, degrees, or certifications are considered a benefit.

Experience: 6 plus years of experience preferred.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical/Piping Designer, the candidate shall be able to lead a piping design or design team in the development of project deliverables for the completion of assigned projects. The candidate must exhibit a complete understanding of mechanical and piping design principles, construction techniques, theories, typical applications, codes, standards, published recommendations, and concepts associated with the mechanical and piping systems as required to complete project designs. The Senior Mechanical/Piping Designer may be required to operate as design lead for the assigned project(s) and must be responsible for organizing and coordinating all design an drafting related design elements required for the completion of the project. This candidate must have the ability to schedule and forecast the assignments and tasks for the design team over the duration of the project(s) and execute the work within the project schedule and budget constraints as defined by the executed contract. The candidate shall be responsible for verifying all mechanical/piping deliverables and coordinating with other discipline leads to ensure all QAQC processes have been followed prior to the Engineer of Record review and approval of the developed package. This shall include: 

  • Gathering equipment datasheets and organizing the project equipment list

  • Equipment layout

  • Pipe sizing, specification, and layout

  • Cross discipline coordination

  • Participation in project related meetings

  • Data acquisition to support essential design functions

  • Development of 3D piping and equipment models for the generation of project plans/deliverables

  • Development of drawing packages that contain but is not limited to the following:

    • Site plans depicting locations of mechanical equipment locations and associated pipe routing​

    • Mechanical equipment and piping plans and sections

    • Mechanical general arrangement (GA) drawings

    • Piping Isometrics (ISOs)

    • Mechanical bills of material (BOM)

    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

    • Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)

  • Development of Contractor Scopes of Work and/or Engineering Instructions

Experience

The following training and/or experience is required for this position.

  • Proficiency with the Autodesk Suite of CAD software packages with specific focus on AutoCAD Plant 3D or equivalent 3D modeling packages

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products

  • Proficiency working with data acquired and processed from 3D laser scanning and using the data to develop piping and equipment models and plans

  • Familiarity with the API, NFPA, ANSI, and other industry standards

Requirements

  • Ability to work well in a team environment to complete tasks associated with a common goal or project. 

  • Ability to communicate to colleagues and project team members to ensure successful execution and completion of tasks.

  • Ability to develop plans and maintain a schedule related to assigned work or tasks.

  • Ability to travel to project sites to collect field data to perform field inspections, which may involve being out of town for multiple days at a time.

  • Ability to organize and schedule teams for executing site visits to acquire and document field data, and to verify the data collected is the correct information needed for the application.

  • Must have the desire to develop professionally and the ability to set goals with align with business objectives.
