MECHANICAL ENGINEER II

Overview

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University.

Registration: EIT certification or active pursuit of EIT certification is expected.

Experience: 2 plus years of experience preferred.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer II, the candidate shall be required to work with the engineering and design team to develop drawing packages, specifications, and reports to support the implementation of solutions for our client's project or application needs. The candidate must understand fundamental engineering principles, theories, typical applications, codes, standards, published recommendations, and concepts associated with the design of mechanical systems. The Mechanical Engineer II will be under the responsible charge of the Mechanical Engineer of Record for each project and will support the development of the mechanical project deliverables and associated engineering analysis and calculations. This shall include:

  • Equipment sizing, specification, and selection

  • Mechanical system analysis (e.g., flow, pipe stress, vibration, pulsation, heat transfer, temperature control, etc.)

  • Generation and documentation of supporting calculations

  • Equipment layout

  • Pipe sizing, specification, and layout

  • Cross discipline coordination

  • Participation in project related meetings

  • Data acquisition to support essential design functions

  • Development of drawing packages that contain but is not limited to the following:

    • Site plans depicting locations of mechanical equipment locations and associated pipe routing

    • Mechanical equipment and piping plans and sections

    • Mechanical general arrangement (GA) drawings

    • Piping Isometrics (ISOs)

    • Mechanical bill of material (BOM)

    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

    • Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)

Training

As an engineer working toward Profession Registration, it would be expected that the candidate would actively be working to gain the knowledge and skills required to pass the PE exam as well as become proficient with the skills and tools needed to effectively complete the engineering assignments. In addition, the following training and/or experience is not required, however is considered a benefit as it directly correlates to building a thorough understanding of he engineering process as well as understanding how to efficiently execute routine engineering tasks.

  • Experience with Autodesk Suite of CAD software packages such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, etc.

  • Pipe stress analysis

  • Fluid modeling

  • Finite Element Analysis

  • Familiarity with the API, NFPA, ANSI, and other industry standards

Requirements

  • Ability to work well in a team environment to complete tasks associated with a common goal or project.

  • Ability to communicate to colleagues and project team members to ensure successful execution and completion of tasks.

  • Ability to develop plans and maintain a schedule related to assigned work or tasks.

  • Ability to travel to project sites to collect field data to perform field inspections, which may involve being out of town for multiple days at a time.

  • Must have the desire to develop professionally and the ability to set goals with align with business objectives.
